Pac Man Applique Pattern

Updated: Mar 22, 2023

Waka-waka

Hello my fellow crocheters! It's been quite some time since I wrote a pattern and I have dearly missed it. Today, I've written a pattern that's perfect for retro gamer fans and beginner crocheters: a Pac-Man Applique!

A little while ago I came to a groundbreaking realization: Pac-Man is literally just an incomplete yellow circle. I.E, the easiest darn thing to crochet! So if you're new to crocheting, then this pattern is just for you! :)

Writing my patterns can be quite time consuming and I do my best to make sure they are clear, coherent and easy to follow.

Since I provide them for free, I would appreciate it if you could please follow me on Instagram @slipstitch_hollow or on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/slipstitchhollow.Or, you can sign up to my mailing list!

You will need:

  • 4mm (G) hook

  • Worsted weight (4) yarn in yellow

Abbreviations:

sc - single crochet

hdc - half double crochet

Let's get crocheting!

Row 1: Chain 3. In 3rd chain from hook, 9hdc. DO NOT JOIN. Instead, turn your work. (9hdc)

Row 2: Chain 2 (does not count as a hdc). 2hdc in the same stitch and in the remaining 8 stitches in the row. Again, DO NOT JOIN. Turn. (18hdc)

Row 3: Chain 2 (does not count as a hdc). 2hdc in the same stitch, 1hdc in the next stitch, repeat until the end, do not join. Turn. (27hdc)

Row 4: Chain 2 (does not count as a hdc). 2hdc in the same stitch, 1hdc in the next 2 stitches, repeat until the end, do not join. Turn. (36hdc)

Row 5: Chain 2 (does not count as a hdc). 2hdc in the same stitch, 1hdc in the next 3 stitches, repeat until the end, do not join. Turn. (45hdc)

Row 6: Chain 2 (does not count as a hdc). 2hdc in the same stitch, 1hdc in the next 4 stitches, repeat until the end, do not join. Turn. (54hdc)

Row 7: Chain 2 (does not count as a hdc). 2hdc in the same stitch, 1hdc in the next 5 stitches, repeat until the end, do not join. Turn. (63hdc)

Final row: In this row, we will create the border with a simple single crochet in each stitch around! Chain 1, and make one sc in the same stitch and each stitch around, until you reach the end.

If you want to add a border to the inside of his mouth, when you reach the end, make 3sc in the corner of the mouth (see below). Then make 1sc along each stitch inside the mouth. When reaching the other corner of the mouth, make 2sc and then join to the first sc you made in this row to join.

Aaaand you're done! A quick, super easy Pac-Man! You can gift it to someone, use it as a coaster (although due to the open mouth it won't be as effective), or sew it onto something. It's up to you, get creative! :)

The final size will be approximately 6 inches wide.

Thank you so much for visiting my site and trying out this pattern. I hope you enjoyed making it as much as I enjoyed designing it!

If anyone has any suggestions or critiques, I'd greatly appreciate your (constructive) feedback. You can either leave a comment below, send me a message through this website, or email me at: slipstitchhollow@gmail.com
