Turtle Amigurumi Pattern

Updated: Mar 22, 2023

You will need:

  • 4mm crochet hook

  • Yarn needle

  • Medium or worsted weight yarn in two colours, light and dark green

  • (Optional) 2 small plastic safety eyes (you can sew in eyes with black yarn instead, or leave your turtle eyeless, it'll still be cute, I promise!)

  • Polyfil for the head and shell

Let's get crocheting!

NOTE: This pattern is worked in ROUNDS. You may wish to use a stitch marker.

BODY (SHELL):

Round one: with dark green, chain 2. In second chain from hook, make 6 single crochet (sc) (6 stitches)

Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch (12 stitches) Round 3: * 2 sc in the next stitch, 1 sc in the next* repeat** 6 times (18 sc) Round 4: * 2 sc in the next stitch, 1 sc in the next 2 stitches* repeat** 6 times (24 sc) Round 5: * 2 sc in the next stitch, 1 sc in the next 3 stitches* repeat** 6 times (30 sc) Round 6: * 2sc in the next stitch, 1 sc in the next 4 stitches* repeat** 6 times (36 sc) Round 7 - 10 (4 rounds): 1 sc in each stitch around.

Slip stitch into the next stitch, fasten off.

Base for the shell of the body: Repeat rounds 1 to 6 of the body pattern, fasten off leaving a long tail to sew to the shell.

Using your yarn needle, sew the base to the body with a whip stitch, Stuffing firmly when you are almost finished.

HEAD:

Round one: with light green, chain 2. In second chain from hook, make 6 single crochet (sc) (6 stitches)

Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch (12 stitches) Round 3: * 2 sc in the next stitch, 1 sc in the next* repeat** 6 times (18 stitches) Round 4 + 5 (2 rounds): 1 sc in each stitch around Round 6: * 1 sc decrease, 1 sc in next stitch* repeat** 6 times (12 stitches) Start stuffing firmly! Now is also the best time to either apply your safety eyes (or sew on some eyes). If you are using safety eyes, make sure you are happy with the placement before locking them in with the washer. Once it's snapped into place, they can't come off! Round 7: sc decrease in the next 6 stitches, fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew to the body.

FINS:

Make 4

Chain 6 In the second again from hook, 1 sc 1 hdc in the next stitch 1 dc in the next stitch 1 hdc in the next stitch 1 sc in the next stitch

Fasten off, leaving a long rail to sew to the body.

Assembly is relatively easy! Using your yarn needle and the long tails left on each piece, sew the pieces onto the shell. You can choose where to attach the fins and head, just make sure the fins are in line with each other.
