Rainbow Taco Crochet Pattern

Updated: Mar 22, 2023

We all need a little more colour and light in the world, and what better way than to do that than by crocheting rainbows? Here is a VERY EASY, simple to follow crochet pattern with pictures provided. Perfect for beginners!

You will need:

  • Worsted weight yarn in the colours of the rainbow (Purple, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red)

  • Either a 4mm or 5mm crochet hook

  • Black string to hang your rainbows

Starting with purple:

Chain 4. In fourth chain from hook, 12dc, slip stitch to join (12dc)

Row 1

Change to blue:

Chain 2, 2dc in the same stitch and each stitch around, slip stitch to the first dc to join (24dc)

Row 2

Change to green:

Chain 2, 2dc in the same stitch, 1dc in next stitch. *2dc in the next stitch, 1 dc in the next* repeat * until the end of the row, slip stitch to join (36dc)

Row 3

Change to yellow:

Chain 2, 2dc in the same stitch, 1dc in next 2 stitches. *2dc in the next stitch, 1 dc in the next 2 stitches* repeat * until the end of the row, slip stitch to join (48dc)

Row 4

Change to orange:

Chain 2, 2dc in the same stitch, 1dc in next 3 stitches. *2dc in the next stitch, 1 dc in the next 3 stitches* repeat * until the end of the row, slip stitch to join (60dc)

Row 5

Change to red:

Chain 2, 2hdc in the same stitch, 1hdc in next 4 stitches. *2hdc in the next stitch, 1 hdc in the next 4 stitches* repeat * until the end of the row, slip stitch to join (72dc)

Row 6

We're almost finished! Now to create the rainbow shape, we simply fold the circle in half, line up the stitches from either side of the circle, and single crochet them together. Fasten off, weave in any ends.

Halfway done!

And now you're done! :)

Aaaand you're done! Now you can glue it to a magnet, gift it to someone (pride is coming up!), attach a string to make it into a hanging decoration, make a lanyard, whatever you like! Get creative :)
