Kitten Amigurumi Pattern

Updated: Mar 22, 2023

You will need:

  • 4mm (G) crochet hook

  • Medium weight yarn (4) (The yarn I have used in this tutorial is Bernat 100% Cotton Handicrafter)

  • 10mm safety eyes

  • Safety nose

  • Polyfil fibre stuffing

  • Scissors

  • Yarn needle

Let's get crocheting!

HEAD & BODY

The head and the body will be made together, rather than separately and then sewed together later on. In this pattern, we start at the top of the bead, will decrease as we reach the 'neck,' and then begin to increase again as we make the body.

Chain 2

Round 1: In second chain from hook, 6sc (6sc)

Round 2: 2sc in each stitch around (12sc)

Round 3: 2sc in the next stitch, 1sc in the next (18sc)

Round 4: 2sc in the next stitch, 1sc in the next 2 stitches, repeat around (24sc)

Round 2, 3 & 4

Round 5: 2sc in the next stitch, 1sc in the next 3 stitches, repeat around (30sc)

Round 6: 2sc in the next stitch, 1sc in the next 4 stitches, repeat around (36sc)

Round 7: 2sc in the next stitch, 1sc in the next 5 stitches, repeat around (42sc)

Rounds 5, 6 & 7

Round 8 - 14: 1sc in each stitch around (42sc)

Round 14

Round 15: sc2tog, 1sc in the next 5 stitches, repeat around (36sc)

Round 16: sc2tog, 1sc in the next 4 stitches, repeat around (30sc)

Round 17: sc2tog, 1sc in the next 3 stitches, repeat around (24sc)

Round 18: sc2tog, 1sc in the next 2 stitches, repeat around (18sc)

Before we continue - now would be a great time to place the safety eyes and nose onto the head. I would recommend moving them around the face to find the position you like before snapping them into place with the plastic washer. Once the washer is in place, it won’t come off and you won’t be able to remove them, so make sure you’re 100% happy with their placement first! If you are unsure where to place them, the photos I've provided should help.

After you have snapped the safety eyes into place, it would also be a good time to stuff the head, as we will be working down onto the body now.

ASSEMLBY

Please use the photos provided to help you position your arms and legs! I placed the arms a few rounds below the "neck" (or the most narrow round). You can either use a yarn needle or your crochet hook, and stitch them on using a simple whip stitch.

For the legs, you can stitch them onto the front of the body, so your kitty will be in a sitting position, or lower if you prefer, as I have done (see below).

The ears were sewn onto the head approximately four rounds from the centre. You can pin them on first to make sure you're happy with the placement before sewing them to the head. The tail is super easy, just be sure you sew it onto the CENTRE of the kitty's behind!

And you're done! :)
